Phoenix-based ViaWest Group and Scottsdale Investment Management broke ground in January on a new Sub-Zero Group Inc. facility in Goodyear.

The real estate and investment firms are building a new 599,351-square-foot building for the high-end kitchen appliance maker on about 36 acres at the southwest corner of Camelback Road and Cotton Lane along the Loop 303 adjacent to other users such as REI and Ball Corp.

This will add to the Madison, Wisconsin-based manufacturer's presence in Goodyear and bring its total footprint in the West Valley city to 1.3 million square feet. Sub-Zero's associated brands include Wolf and Cove.

“As we plan to execute expansion aligned with our growth strategy, we are proud to continue our partnership with the city of Goodyear. The expansive manufacturing and distribution footprint will give us opportunity for long-term growth,” said Scott Wareing, senior vice president of operations at Sub-Zero, in a statement.

The new facility is expected to be operational by April 2024. Building partners involved include general contractor Willmeng Construction, DLR Group and Kimley-Horn.

Sub-Zero, the first manufacturer to land at one of the city's largest industrial parks called PV 303, operates its other Goodyear plant at 4295 N. Cotton Lane close to its planned expansion. The company is Goodyear's seventh largest employer and had more than 500 workers at its Goodyear plant, according to Maricopa Association of Governments 2021 employer database.

Sub-Zero first opened in a 500,000-square-foot building in Goodyear in 2011 and expanded by another 248,000 square feet in 2015 since it didn't have room at its Phoenix location to accommodate demand for its product.

This time around, Steven Schwarz, a founding partner of ViaWest Group, said Sub-Zero did not have ample room at its current location in Goodyear or at its facility in Phoenix at 3865 W. Van Buren St. near 39th Avenue.
